越南语主要分布在越南，由于它在发展过程中与周边语言如孟高棉语、台语、汉语有着密切且错综复杂的关系，因此在判断其语系归属问题上有不少困难。另外，远东地区的语系格局不断出现新思考，越南语在新的格局中的位置及其亲缘的联系也有了微妙的变化。随着语言接触的研究不断深入，有学者认为，语言发生学可以分成两种模式，即谱系树模式和语言联盟模式，越南语是否是一种混合语也成了值得研究的问题。%There is a close and complex relation between Vietnamese and Man-Khmer language, Tai language and Chinese, which is difficult to identify language family of Vietnamese. With the new thoughts of pedigree patterns in Far East, the position of Vietnamese in this new pattern has changed slightly. Since some linguists assume that the genesis of language can have two modes, pedigree mode and language alliance mode, whether Vietnamese is a mixed language needs to be studied.
