Few practitioners today would argue against the benefits of implementing a paperless strategy for planning, performing, reporting, and other aspects of the audit engagement process. Less paper provides efficiency gains and smoother workflow, less paper streamlines client communications, and the list goes on. A thoughtfully-developed paperless engagement process even presents opportunities for an audit firm to establish an increased level of quality control and consistency. Why then are accounting, auditing, and other service businesses still generating close to 21 million tons of paper each year?
