In his introduction to The Future of Scholarly Communication, editor Michael Jubb describes scholarly communications as a "complex ecosystem" undergoing profound and disruptive changes, marked by shifting roles, relationships, and responsibilities for the major players involved: researchers, universities, libraries, funders, and publishers. Jubb and co-editor Deborah Shorley draw on the insights of 15 contributors (most from institutions in the United Kingdom) to examine these changes and the challenges they entail, with the ultimate aim of defining what they believe the future of scholarly communications holds. The result is a wide-ranging collection that provides a bird's-eye view of the state of the research landscape in an international context.
