Adrian Brown has worked in digital preservation for 16 years and is currently the director of the Parliamentary Archives in the United Kingdom (UK). He shares his experiences and knowledge of the field in this book, providing guidance for small to moderately sized cultural memory institutions interested in creating digital preservation services. The book is divided into two primary sections: The first examines the processes associated with establishing a digital preservation service while the chapters in the second section study the workflow of a digital preservation service from content acquisition to setting up access to the material for users. In each of these focused discussions, Brown notes both the basic digital preservation requirements for any institution while also presenting the more complex requirements appropriate for such larger facilities, such as the Wellcome Library, the National Archives of the United Kingdom, and the United Kingdom's Parliamentary Archives. This step-by-step structure allows the reader to identify the appropriate first steps their institution should take while providing a guide for future development of digitization efforts.
