I was delighted to be asked to write this preface as I have viewed the development of the concept of authenticity and of authentic leadership with hope and questions. It is great that Advances adopts an HRD (human resource development) perspective to explore Authentic Leadership. It is particularly great that this exploration is being spearheaded by key scholars such as Julia Storberg-Walker and Rita Gardiner, and the other contributors to this issue.
