The Pentagon proposed Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt Ⅱ retirement in Fiscal Year 2015 Defense budget in this spring. This is the second time since 2012. Though A-10 has been highly effective against ground targets during the last decade of war, the single mission capability of attacking targets on ground put the A-10 at more risk of retirement. Especially, under the defense budget reduction, multipurpose aircraft are in greater demand. The National Defense Authorization Act probably isn't going to get done before new fiscal year which starts from October, as a midterm elections loom. So keep watchful eye on A-10. The following article "Air National Guard -Controversial A-10 Retirement" describes this topic more in detail.
