US aircraft repair stations, represented by the Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA), have come out in opposition to a proposed Congressional bill that aims to increase regulatory oversight of foreign repair stations, (including surprise inspections) and harmonise standards in the MRO sector. The Association argues that the bill, the'Safe Aircraft Maintenance Standards Act', would create extra burdens in data collecting and reporting, hinder US competitiveness, as well as make it more difficult for US airlines to receive services at non-US but FAA-approved MRO shops. ARSA's opposition has also received backing from Airlines for America, the Aerospace Industries Association and GAMA.
