Launched at Dubai was Quest Helicopters AVQ - a tandem-rotor helicopter that also incorporates fly-by-wire (FBW), sidestick controller and a rocket-boosted detachable cabin 'pod' that allows pilots and passengers to escape a catastrophic failure via parachute. It is also to be manufactured in the UAE in Umm Al Quwain - with production expected to begin in 2014. The venture is financed by Quest Investments who have put $50m into the first phase of the project. Meanwhile the helicopter itself is the brainchild of Ukrainian designer Voldomyr Udovenko.
