To power the new A380 into the skies a special breed of engine is required which not only must be powerful but also conform to present and future noise and environmental legislation. Rolls-Royce in the UK and US-based GE/P&W Engine Alliance have both risen to the challenge with competing designs. BILL READ talks to ROBERT NUTTALL at Rolls-Royce and BRUCE HUGHES from the Engine Alliance about the engineering and marketing progress of their A380 powerplant projects.
