Experts from ANSER, the brand new national electrification and rural energy services agency, are this year due to visit the western provinces of Kwango, Kwilu and Mai-Ndombe, as well as the outskirts of Kinshasa, to look for sites where an additional 30 MW of electricity could be produced. The missions, designed to make up for a lack of reliable data, follow a series of studies conducted last year with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in central DRC, specifically in Kasai, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental, Lomami and Sankuru provinces. According to ANSER, these have added 70 MW of energy potential to the Greater Kasai area - equivalent on paper to 300,000 electrified households. Established in July 2020, ANSER has very ambitious targets in view of DRC's electricity challenges. The agency aims to increase the national level of household access to electricity from 12 to 30% by 2024. To this end, it created the Mwinda Fund, which hopes to raise $500m (Africa Intelligence, 12/03/21). A roundtable meeting of international and private donors will meet on 25 and 26 January 2022.
