ALEXANDER RUBTSOV also discussed the latest work on the narrow-body Irkut MC-21, for which SCAC and TsAGI also propose saberlets. According to the SCAC president, the second MC-21 prototype will fly in March and the third this summer. Rubtsov said fuel consumption, measured during a flight from Irkutsk to Zhukovsky, filled the test team with optimism. Tests of the MC-21's composite wing are in progress at TsAGI, the design of which will be complete by the autumn, when lifetime testing is scheduled to begin. As of the end of January, the first and only prototype MC-21 had made 38 flights.
