There can be few more apt addresses in the aerospace business than the one provided for Airbus' new A320-family final assembly line (FAL) just three nautical miles from downtown Mobile in Alabama. The postal address for the Airbus US Manufacturing Facility, as the new line is officially called, is 320 Airbus Way - a reference both to the manufacturer and the family of aircraft it is building there. Airbus officially inaugurated the facility - which had begun operating in July 2015, when the first aircraft major component assemblies (MCAs) arrived there - on September 14. The previous evening, Airbus President and CEO Fabrice Bregier said to a large gathering of reporters from around the world, "we believe this is the most significant event in commercial aerospace" for many years. "Overnight, it doubles the number of companies manufacturing large commercial aircraft" in the United States.
