On September 1 the European Air Transport Command (EATC) officially stood up at Eindhoven Air Base in the Netherlands with an opening ceremony conducted by the Dutch Defence Minister Eimert van Middelkoop. The new organisation brings the transport fleets of Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands under a single command allowing better use to be made of existing assets and the development of joint doctrine and training, and standardisation of equipment and maintenance. It will also allow the countries to cope with the delays to the Airbus Military A400M. Its first commander is Major General Jochen Both of the Luftwaffe.
