At the Army Aviation Association of America Convention held in Nashville, Tennessee between April 1 and 4, MD Helicopters unveiled the MD540F-an upgrade of the MD 530F. It features a new six-blade, fully articulated, all-composite rotor system and more rugged landing gear skids to permit higher maximum take-off and landing weights. This will enable the armed version to carry combinations of fixed forward-firing rockets and guns, laser-guided rockets, and Hellfire missiles on four weapons stations. The MD 540F will be equipped with a fully integrated digital glass cockpit with large multifunction colour displays. Data will also be displayed directly to the pilot's eyes via a helmet display and tracking system.
