The Russian Ministry of Defence may buy helicopters from a joint enterprise organised by Eurocopter and the Russian helicopter manufacturer HeliProm-SPb 000. Discussions have been under way for the assembly of 15 single-engine AS350 Ecureuil and 30 twin-engine AS355 Twin Ecureuil helicopters, with unit costs of 110.7 million and 164.9 million rubles ($3.8 million and $5.6 million) each, respectively. The partners are due to set up a new plant in the Leningrad oblast to assemble the machines. A deal could be signed later this year. However, the Russian-designed Ka-226T series is also being offered to the Ministry.
