The pastoral landscape of the Vale of Glamorgan is perhaps not the first place that springs to mind when aircraft maintenance is discussed. Yet it is here that both the Royal Air Force and British Airways have large maintenance bases only a few miles apart. The former RAF station at StAthan deals with the military aircraft-among them former BA Vickers (BAC) VC10s-while at nearby Cardiff Airport British Airways Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC) performs heavy maintenance on BA's wide-body fleet.
