The tenth OEA Congress on aluminium recycling took place in Berlin on 2 and 3 March. With substantially more than 100 participants from all over Europe the event was well attended, and not only in light of the present economic situation. Many highly interesting lectures were presented: on the economic and environmental framework conditions of the aluminium recycling industry, on the short and long term perspectives of the sector, on questions relating to the recycling of aircraft and packaging, on the recycling industry in Russia, China and India, on questions of furnace technology for the melting of old scrap - too many topics to even give a rough, summary account. Some of these matters were already touched upon in the March issue of this journal and we will be addressing one or other of them in the coming months. At this time arnnumber of key comments by Giinter Kirchner, General Secretary of the OEA, concerning the future of aluminium recycling in Europe will be reported.
