摘要

Hong Kong―Exactly how positive is it to be Ebitda-positive? Ebitda, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization, is a measure typically used to assess a company's cash flow and, consequently, its ability to service debt. But over the past few years, it has gained popularity, among many Internet companies as well as telecommunications investors and analysts, who often prefer to emphasize the Ebitda numbers rather than net earnings or losses. In addition to showing investors how a company's core business is faring, there is also a big incentive for start-ups and telecom companies to use Ebitda over the traditional net-profit numbers: even if a company is unprofitable, which is typically the case for a start-up, it can often report positive Ebitda figures.
