Managers of 13 Arthur Andersen accounting affiliates in Asia jointly endorsed a merger with KPMG LLP, a potential mar- riage that would make Andersen's name disappear from the region and create an operation that a KPMG executive asserts would have "tremendous market potential and position." After meeting with a KPMG team early last week, the Asian affiliates of Andersen Worldwide SC, the umbrella body of Andersen, agreed that a merger with KPMG-which is seeking to merge with all of Andersen's non-U.S. operations-is their best hope and first choice for salvaging their practices in the region.
