摘要

New research shows that the steady increase in temperatures over the past 20 years is cutting into the sales of cold-weather clothing.rnCommsec chief economist Craig James says the warming climate has reduced demand for such things as coats and boots. And this season is shaping up as especially tough for Melbourne retailers, with temperatures in March and April so far 3.6C higher than the long-term average. James says consumers are already less willing to buy, making it hard to tell how much the retail sector's spate of mid-season clearance sales has been due to warmer weather.
