The 737-10X is Boeing's quickest answer to the growing threat posed by the sales success of the Airbus A321neo. While Boeing says the -10X's performance will be better in every aspect, customers are skeptical. The NMA, if launched and done right, would be Boeing's best response to the competing Airbus model—and of course much more. The aircraft would sit between the 737, which appears not to have sufficient capabilities for the longish-range missions required in the targeted segment, and the 787, which is overqualified (and therefore too expensive) for the relatively short transatlantic flights airlines are considering.
