Imagine a platform that is launched into geosynchronous orbit (GEO) without a payload but with the resources on board to stay on orbit for 40 years. Payloads are launched as required to plug into standard ports on the platform, providing capabilities that change over time. This is one concept being examined to enable government and commercial customers to refresh the technology , on their satellites in response to changes in markets and threats. And it is one potential product of robotic servicing demonstrations now in the planning stage.
