On April 1, Republic Airways Holdings parked 12 Embraer ERJ 145s that subsidiary Chau-tauqua Airlines had been flying for United Airlines. By August, 15 Republic ERJ 140s at the end of their capacity purchase agreements with American Airlines will join them. Republic entered 2014 with 41 ERJs on expiring contracts, and planned to keep all of them flying. But the FAA's increased minimum standards for first officers that went into effect last August (see page 35) has the company scrambling to find enough qualified pilots. Rather than risk schedule disruptions or a smooth entry into service of 25 new 76-seat Embraer 175s arriving this year, Republic opted to park the 27 smaller RJs, leaving about $20 million in revenue on the table in the process.
