When Embraer created its EmbraerX innovation unit in March 2017, its charter was to enable the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer to explore new business models in air transportation. The goal was to create a startup-like environment within an established aerospace player that could itself engage with startups and investors exploring new approaches to air travel. Having incubated Embraer's involvement in the nascent market since a startup mindset, Embraer believes Eve will benefit from greater focus, speed and agility, allowing it to move at a quick pace to capitalize on the global UAM market opportunity. "Eve starts as an Embraer company; Embraer owns the shares, but it has more independence to act. It combines startup mode with the know-how within Embraer," Stein says.
