The UK's willingness to recruit foreign talent is unparalleled among advanced industrial countries. The foreign invasion reached the built environment recently with the appointment of Hank Dittmar as chief executive of the Prince's Foundation. Dittmar, a former president of the US Congress for New Urbanism think-tank, is anxious to downplay the suggestion that his appointment is part of a takeover of UK planning. 'There's a global conversation and we are all starting to exchange,' he says. Traffic is heading both ways, he adds.
