A little smart metering here...a little distributed generation of renewable-energy sources there...and-voila-Smart Grid. Um, no. The Smart Grid is not going to happen magically. It's a complex system of systems that encompasses the integration of power, communications and information technologies for an improved electric power infrastructure that serves loads while providing for an ongoing evolution of utilizing traditional and clean energy technologies, interfaced with end-use applications. As the technology further evolves, distributed resources-both generators and electric storage systems-will be interconnected and further utilized in the power system.
