help is at hand, in the form of the award-winning article by Doreen Starke-Meyerring and Deborah Andrews. Starke-Meyerring and Andrews describe a semester-long team assignment between two classes of management students, one in Montreal and the other in Delaware. The authors had the shared goal of "creating an opportunity for our students to develop an important set of literacies for business communication in globally distributed environments" (p. 28). The article is outstanding for several reasons. First, it is well written and structured, making it easy to read and follow. Second, the pedagogical research described is timely. Globally distributed teams are becoming more and more common in the business world, and we as instructors need to equip students to work in such an environment, using modern technologies to communicate. Third, the project was well designed and executed. Supported by the literature on virtual global teams, the authors took great care in considering, anticipating, and addressing relevant issues. Fourth, the article nicely combines theory and practice and raises many points of interest for both scholars and practitioners. I, for one, appreciate the fact that if I were to carry out a similar project, I would have basically everything I need to know, and more!
