Most modern spacecraft require some form of active control to accomplish their mission objectives. Accurate system identification is often a precursor to sophisticated control algorithms, which assume that the spacecraft dynamics have been accurately modelled. The usual assumption of system linearity, however, may not always be valid. Using a technique called Augmented System Identification, this paper presents an approach that better models the nonlinearities inherent in control moment gyroscopes.
