In July 1994, in March 1995, and in June 1995, Mexican oceanographic research vessels made CTD and XBT hydrographic sections to estimate the geostrophic volume transport of the Yucatan Current (YC) between Yucatan and Cuba. A US oceanographic research vessel working in cooperation in the Gulf of Mexico in summers 1994 and 1995 made similar XBT + CTD sections across the Loop Current (LC). In July 1994, the LC had pushed north of 27°N in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, just prior to undergoing an anticyclonic eddy separation event (Eddy Y). At that time, geostrophic volume transports computed with respect to (wrt) 800 db for the YC and LC were 34 Sv and 33 Sv, respectively.
