On a January morning in Nashville, Tenn., about 100 store employees from Bellevue Center mall gathered over a catered breakfast to find out what changes were in store for the seven-year-old property. In October 1997, Bellevue Center was purchased by Oak-tree Capital Management LLC of Los Angeles. It would be the mall's third owner since it opened in 1990. Then in January, tenants learned the mall also would come under new management. Oaktree Capital had retained General Growth Management Inc., a third-party management company and a subsidiary of Chicago-based General Growth Properties Inc.
