Due to our imminent chartered status, ICES is increasing its activity in encouraging young people to enter the surveying industry. By doing this, we will play our part in alleviating two enduring national problems; the lack of awareness of career opportunities amongst young people and the skills shortage. Together we can inspire the next generation to aspire to more. Getting in front of young people and telling them about our workplace is an easy butrncrucial contribution we can make.rnICES is offering members an opportunity to act as volunteer speakers in schools, colleges andrnuniversities, and, on occasion, to act as advisers at careers fairs and exhibitions. A career talk will take no more than half an hour with no long-term commitment - speak just once if you want to. Obviously attendance at a careers fair will involve a longer time commitment of two or more hours but, again, you need only do this once if your time is at a premium.
