摘要

In the September 2008 issue of CIWM the Centre for Waste Management (CWM) wrote an article entitled Crystal Clear, discussing the "rise of the liquid crystal display (LCD) television and how regulation and emerging technology may be its downfall". At this time, few LCDs were appearing in a display waste stream dominated by cathode ray tube (CRT) sets. The rapid consumer change to LCD has led to the displacement of traditional CRT monitors and televisions. Nearly three years on, how has the display waste stream evolved and were the predictions of technological change, under increasing EU environmental waste management legislation, valid? More importantly, what are the implications for the display recycling industry? It was predicted that in the intervening years technological changes would dramatically affect the types of display equipment coming onto the market.
