AS STEVE Coffin of MiX Telematics explained, the advantages of fleet management don't only apply to long haul transport and distribution - there are plenty of benefits to be had in more localised operations, such as waste collection and recycling."In our discussions with potential customers engaged in local, short haul operations, we frequently hear the view that fleet management - or vehicle telematics if you prefer- isn't for them," he reported. "The argument we often hear is that drivers are not covering sufficient distances to warrant the cost of vehicle tracking but, in reality," he suggested, "nothing could be further from the truth."
