Directors of companiesrnof all sizes are probably already aware of the legalrnrequirement to make sure that company returns have been filed to Companies House and that accounts have been published and submitted on an annual basis. Directors are also likely to be aware of the need to comply with health and safety at work issues. But how many businesses are aware of the requirement of directors to address environmental matters under company law?rnCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is becoming a familiar term and is included in corporate websites and in annual reports. It can be argued that CSR is not just a means of promoting how "environmentally friendly" a company is, it can also provide a means of addressing the company's environmental impact on its neighbours, thus pre-empting and avoiding any potential damages claims that could arise against the company.
