With fuel costs continuing to spiral on both white and red diesel, many responsible businesses and their respective management teams are wondering where to start when it comes to reducing this necessary evil cost. Whatever your industry sector and whatever your actual operation, two common denominators are forever prevalent when the management discussions debate fuel efficiency: vehicle and driver. Often the debate outcomes are: "We can do very little to improve our fuel efficiency as we have the same vehicles and same drivers day in day out." Wrong! The days of the big right foot and "brake horsepower is king" have long gone, as modern day vehicles are built around fuel efficiency torque curves and a number of on-board fuel saving aids. Driver education and development have never been more important.
