摘要

Picture this. A young mother-to-be walks into a scrap-booking store looking for baby announcement supplies. The first thing she sees is a display board showing richly designed, complicated scrapbook pages. She picks up a class flyer, but barely understands the titles-they sound too technical. As she checks out, the clerk strikes up a conversation, but she doesn't understand at least a fourth of what is said. The clerk uses what amounts to scrapbook jargon, a code the new customer has not yet cracked. According to Shane Cullimore, owner, president and CEO of Crafter's Home, a national association for scrapbook retailers, the above scenario is common. "The scrapbook-ing industry is not user friendly to beginners, even though new scrapbookers are our lifeblood," says Cullimore. It's a problem that keeps the scrapbooking industry from realizing its full potential. "There are ways to overcome the problem though," he explains.
