It has been a pleasure to serve as your ACRL vice-president for the past year. I've learned a great deal working with the stellar ACRL staff and with so many ACRL members on the Board, on committees and task groups, and informally on issues that are important to our profession. One of my first responsibilities as vice-president and as an ACRL Board member was to participate in strategic planning for the association. At the Board's 2018 fall strategic planning meeting, we devoted much of our time to developing our shared understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and to exploring ways that ACRL could move forward in these areas. I was grateful and proud to take part in the discussions that led us to create the new core commitment to EDI as part of ACRL's strategic plan. The core commitment gives clear voice to our values and intentions and provides a basis for planning EDI actions and initiatives throughout the association.
