摘要

The word BATIK has a Javanese origin and refers to a method of resist dyeing done to produce coloured designs on fabrics. Having first applied wax to the parts that need to be left undyed, the fabric is dipped into dye and then the resist is removed to showcase the design. This craft is practised in many regions of the world. The current article is based on an in-depth study of the craft practises of batik-Miniya Kaam, in the district of Kutch-Gujarat. Data was collected by a simple interview technique.
