摘要

The effectiveness of an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program designed to allow incumbent employees in healthcare agencies to pursue nursing licensure was evaluated. The program offering drew upon resources from a partnership comprised of personnel from a college, two participating health care agencies, and the local workforce board. This multimethod descriptive study included surveys to assess reactions of participants and their supervisors to the program, academic records to assess success in the program, and National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) records to assess pass rates on licensure examinations. A survey tool was used to assess the degree of synergy in the partnership. Twenty students successfully completed the first year of the program and passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) on the first attempt. These same 20 students then completed the second year of the program. Nineteen (95%) students successfully completed the NCLEX-RN on the first attempt. Using the Partnership Self-Assessment Tool, the partnership had a level of synergy needed to be effective. The partnership was effective and productive as evidenced by adding new nurses to the workforce and a high level of partnership synergy reported. While employers hired their own registered nurse (RN) graduates, they were unprepared to employ the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) graduates after the first year, indicating the need to work more closely with granting agency and health care agencies to identify appropriate outcomes. A collaborative, synergistic partnership was able to make progress in addressing the nursing shortage, suggesting the potential of partnerships to attend to other challenges faced by healthcare educators and practitioners.View full textDownload full textRelated var addthis_config = { ui_cobrand: "Taylor & Francis Online", services_compact: "citeulike, netvibes, twitter, technorati, delicious, linkedin, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, google, more", pubid: "ra-4dff56cd6bb1830b" }; Add to shortlist Link Permalink http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/10668920903018191
