Though Polywe'S $1,350 Poly A790 is the first Phenom machine we've tested, we already examined one Phenom processor (see review on p. 17) and came away less than impressed. So we weren't exactly surprised when the A790 failed to wow us with its general performance. Even supported by 4GB of DDR2 RAM, the 2.2GHz Phenom 9500 CPU delivered unexceptional scores on our productivity benchmark tests. It took 4 minutes and 52 seconds to finish our Windows Media Encoder test, and 5 minutes and 35 seconds to complete our iTunes conversion trial. The machine registered 7,019 in Futuremark PCMarkO5, though we also noticed occasional sluggishness during a number of common tasks.
