There are as many kinds of headphones as there are kinds of heads. That's an exaggeration. But it's not an exaggeration to say that headphones come in all shapes and sizes that will, with some adjustment and manipulation, fit most, if not all, of those many heads. They also come in varying degrees of price and quality. Headphones exist because you can't walk around holding loudspeakers up to your ears and because studio engineers and artists want and need to monitor how their music sounds. Some 'phones can cut the rumble from a jet engine or a subway train, others are designed to let your ears "breathe." And a growing number of "street" 'phones just look cool.
