Like it or not, work today is less a place we go and more a thing we do. And we do it in all kinds of settings. Rapidly expanding broadband Internet access and related technologies mean that people in many professions can be just as efficient and productive working in their homes (once regarded as refuges from workday concerns) as in their offices. Almost 20 percent of employed Americans work at home in their primary jobs at least one full day a month, and two-thirds bring work home at least once a week or over a weekend, according to the Internet Home Alliance. The number of full-time home-based workers in the United States has jumped 63.2 percent in only four years, reports the International Telework Association & Council.
