As a classical and fundamental problem in operations management, the newsven-dor model has been studied since the 18th century. Starting from the 1950s, the newsvendor problem has been extensively studied and extended to model a variety of inventory and capacity decision making problems. More recently, the model has been widely adopted to analyze supply chains involving perishable and seasonal products. Nowadays, a search of major research portals will find thousands of theoretical research papers based on this model.
