Increasing violence in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan in the last few years is making headlines inside Pakistan and internationally. In addition to many oddities of the system in place in FATA, the paramilitary force operating in the area called Frontier Corps (FC) has also come into limelight (Frontier Corps in two provinces of N.W.F.P. and Balochistan are separate entities each headed by a Major General. This article is focused only on FC-N.W.F.P.). In view of very little available information, a number of views are being expressed by laypeople and experts. A number of recipes are being offered which include changing the force into a regular army formation, abandoning the force and erecting a new structure and giving a new face lift to the organization. FC evolved over hundred and thirty years from establishment and consolidation of the British Raj to changes brought by the emergence of Pakistan in 1947.
