摘要

In the last tew years, tribal territories of Pakistan have seen a rapid increase in violence and it is in this context that not only the international audience but Pakistani themselves have been introduced to the tribesmen living on the periphery of the state. In the last two hundred years, tribes living along Pakistan and Afghanistan border have been gradually linked to their respective countries. In the case of Pakistan, tribal communities were linked with rest of the country through the gradual process of increased participation of tribesmen in different segments of government bureaucracy and other state institutions.
