摘要

The concept of security has traditionally encompassed military security. Its broad-ene'd canvas now includes the realms of environmental and human security. In the face of global integration of economics and governance, and growing violence and terrorism the world over, security paradigms have diversified in approach and strategies. Diplomatic channels, promotion of Track II diplomacy, role of civil society and non-state actors in security has seemingly enhanced. Most security issues and problems are often the products of global, regional and domestic developments; the major sources of South Asian security problems are the regional countries' threat perceptions and security pursuits". Global and domestic developments have only added unde-sired complexities. The involvement of great powers directly affected the military balance within the region and introduced further complications.
