摘要

Tatsushi Arai shines an important light on creative moments in conflict resolution. When conflict resolution is discussed, creativity is one of the processes mentioned, however the question "What does it mean to be creative in the context of tension and crisis" has not been thoroughly delved into. Arai gives valuable insights here. His research sits neatly within the growing area of constructivist and normative research, looking at the ideational processes and values that come together in conflict resolution. It also adds to the existing literature of conflict analysis in focussing on resolution. He asks: How do creative resolution options and/or procedures by which to come up with resolution options first emerge, gradually evolve and subsequently come to be accepted or rejected in a given social and epistemological context of intergroup conflict? Professor Aral defines creativity in the context of conflict resolution as unconventional viability. His aim is to demystify the structure, processes and dynamics of creativity and to articulate learnable and teachable elements of creativity and make them accessible to any individuals or groups seeking to discover and apply creative potential. The path to do so according to Tatsushi Arai lies in finding patterns that lie at the bottom of even such an antagonistic area as conflict resolution.
