The transition of power now underway in the DPRK begins the consolidation of regional authority by the People's Republic of China (PRC), and, ultimately, the reduction of the US presence and influence in North-East Asia.rnQuite apart from the formal process of the DPRK's Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), which showed a degree of compliance by Kim Jong-II in the process of transitioning power to a collective military leadership, there has for some months been strong evidence, based on reports from within Pyongyang and based on direct contact with senior DPRK military officials, that the process of leadership change in the DPRK was already well advanced, and could occur over the coming months.
