During the last week of September 2006, in late night sessions, the US Congress finally passed two important pieces of legislation: The $500-billion+ FY (fiscal year) 2007 Defense spending bill which included $70-billion for military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq and a $35-billion Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spending bill which includes the recently approved $1.2-billion for increased border fencing to discourage illegal immigration.
