摘要

Improving the quality of life of various populationgroups constitutes the principal objective of contemporarysocioeconomic development concepts [1]. Originallyfocused on the link between veterinary and humanmedicine [2], “One Health” has been extended toembrace the concept of “One Welfare” by consideringthe diverse links between the well-being of humansand other animals [3, 4]. Animal assisted intervention(AAI) is a potentially ideal example of “One Health-One Welfare” as supported by the increasing numberof studies and widespread testimonials on the benefitsthat animals provide to human health and well-being,and, conversely, the positive response of dogs to humancompany for their emotional and physical betterment[4]. In Italy AAI have been recognized as official careby the Prime Ministerial Decree issued on February 28,2003. AAI implementation is regulated by the Agreementbetween the Government, the Regions and theAutonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano on thedocument bearing National Guidelines for Animal AssistedInterventions (AAI) of March 25, 2015, which hasbeen fully transposed in April this year.
